The Student Union building was originally built in an L-shape and is only half of what later became the A Building.  This photo is from 1946.

Before the front half of the building was added, the courtyard area was used for student activities.

The arches at the south end of the building appear in many campus pictures throughout the 1940s.

When the front half of the building was completed in 1951, the arches were retained and are still visible in the entrance to the Student Health Center.
